Winifred Canright House
Winifred Canright House is dedicated to providing transitional housing, healthcare, and supportive services specifically tailored for homeless men. The program typically offers stays ranging from nine months to one year, although extensions up to two years are considered if needed for clients to achieve self-sufficiency and secure suitable permanent housing.
Program Services and Operations
Services at Winifred Canright House are delivered on a daily basis to a maximum of eighteen eligible clients. Program staff actively engages with referring agencies, conducts interviews with prospective clients, and maintains a waiting list. Upon admission, the Case Manager initiates initial interviews, assesses immediate needs, and obtains records from referring agencies. Within two weeks, a comprehensive medical and social needs-assessment is conducted, and a customized Program Plan is established. This plan encompasses budgeting, substance use treatment, mental health counseling, transportation, employment considerations (if feasible), medical needs, and long-term housing options.
Program Plan outlines both short and long-term goals, with the overarching objective for each client to achieve self-sufficiency and secure permanent housing. Throughout their stay, clients have access to nursing services, group counseling, and weekly meetings with their Case Manager to assess progress and address any emerging needs. Family counseling is arranged as needed.
In cases where employment is unattainable for medical reasons, the Case Manager assists clients in applying for alternative financial support, such as social security or disability benefits. The
To ensure community integration, program staff actively networks with local and statewide groups, participating in housing coalition meetings in Monmouth County. Additionally, ongoing relationships are maintained with local NA and AA representatives, ensuring sustained client participation both within the program and at off-site locations.
